Just the tiniest preview of a new Elgg 1.8 theme that is almost ready for release…
I’ve always designed around the content before, so designing themes feels like coming at web design from the wrong direction. I’m trying to think about what the content might be, and about how people might use my themes. I’ve found that I actually have too many ideas of possible designs and approaches… where to start?
The first designs I’m working on are pretty much purely visual, and each one wraps comfortably around the Elgg software. I have three themes on the go – each with several variations – and deliberately not presenting a facebook-like social networking facade. Most of the themes available for 1.8 at the moment follow that design brief, so I thought I’d start with something different. My own site uses Elgg in a much broader context, and I want to at least hint at other possibilities with these themes – I want people to feel that they can build a whole content rich website around Elgg.
This theme is a very simple, elegant, ‘white’ theme with a working content slider and it will be online soon.
